The University of Massachusetts mission is to provide an affordable and accessible education of high quality and to conduct programs of research and public service that advance knowledge, help build the economy and improve the lives of the people of the Commonwealth, the nation, and the world. The University system consists of five campuses covering every region in the state – the flagship campus in Amherst, the medical school campus in Worcester, and three comprehensive campuses in Boston, Dartmouth and Lowell. The University helps create jobs, prepares its students to succeed in jobs, and inspires social activity that strengthens communities in every region of Massachusetts. In fact, the University of Massachusetts is one of the state’s largest economic engines, generating over $6B impact and 45,000 jobs annually. In fiscal 2014, UMass research and development expenditures exceeded $600 million, and UMass technology licensing revenue was over $30 million. Enrollment has grown to over 73,000 – a growth of 30 percent over the last decade – and the University awards over 16,000 degrees annually, with most of its graduates choosing to live and work in the Commonwealth.
